About scout group ''SPARTAK''

Scout group ”Spartak” from Subotica (Serbia) was founded 16 May 1962 by Marica Maričić, now a retired pedagogist and lifelong Scoutmaster of the group. Our scout group has been named after Jovan Mikić – Spartak, a prominent sportsman and participant of the 1965 Berlin Olympics. He was also the commander of the partisan unit in Subotica, who died in the liberation of our city during World War II.
The members of the scout group ”Spartak” are true followers of Spartak’s ideas. They nurture the notion of scouting and the “pure side of life”, as our famous poet and scout friend Miroslav Antić would put it.
During all these years, around 4000 of our scouts, mountain scouts and scout novices engaged in various activities at many different jamborees, to name but a few – the state jamboree at Bled in 1971, on Petrova gora in 1975, in Tjenište in 1983, in Belgrade in 1987, in Smederevska Palanka in 1997, in Nikšić in 2002, and at many other locations, such as Krupanj, Divčibare, Zrenjanin, Fruška gora and Deliblato Sands.
We have also participated in summer camps in Stari Grad, Hvar, Zablaće near Šibenik, Neum, Ohrid, Lake Prespan, Struga, Boračko Lake, Black Lake on Durmitor, Biograd na Moru, Tivat, Herceg Novi, Orahovica on Papuk, Fruška gora, Zaovine on Tara.
Many of our scouts have attended both regional and state schools for group scout leaders and instructors. In addition, our scout group organizes a Winter School for Group Scout Leaders every year.
A lot of our scouts have been awarded with scout medals, such as golden and silver maple leaves, as the Partisan Scout acknowledgement. We have also received the Partisan Unit sash several years in a row – in 1971, 1978, 1979, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1989, 1993 and 1997.
Scout group “Spartak” has also received the “Golden Maple Leaf with rays” medal in 1989, and the following year we received another one – “Golden Scout Sign”. In 1996 Ministry of Environment, Mining and Spatial Planning proclaimed our organization as the most successful one for the realization of the “Let’s Clean Serbia” action.
Our scout group has two First Degree Instructors and three Second Degree Instructors.
We have also taken part in many international camps, such as those at Balaton Lake in Hungary with scouts from Segedin, at Lake Como in Italy with scouts from Milan, and at Palić, with scouts from Wales.
Some of our scouts attended the celebration of 100 years of scouting in London in 2007, with 50000 scouts from all over the world.
Scout group “Spartak” collaborates with other organizations and the local authorities in the realization of various actions, such as “Young against Ambrosia”, The Encounter of Cultures”, “Let’s Clean the World”, “Say and Show”, etc.
